Homps
Homps is a picturesque French village set on the Canal du Midi and adjacent to the Lac du Jouarres with beaches for swimming and water sports.
The village of Homps became established as the port for the nearby town of Olonzac after the completion of the Canal du Midi 350 years ago.
Canal du Midi
Within two minutes walking distance from our Villa is the Canal du Midi. A five minute walk along the towpath will take you to the centre of the village.
The cargo barges have now been replaced by pleasure boats and the canal side bars and restaurants provide an ideal place to relax and watch the world go by.
The Canal Du Midi is a World Heritage Site.
Lac de Jouarres
Another five minutes or so will bring you to the Lac de Jouarres where separate beaches are available for sailing/windsurfing, swimming and fishing.
Minerve
The ancient city of Minerve clings to the side of a gorge carved by water flowing for 40 million years and is 10 minutes away by car.
There is plenty to do and see further afield.
The region is renowned for fresh fruit, wine and olives as well as the beautiful scenery.
If you prefer you can drive to the beaches of the Mediterranean near Narbonne or to escape the heat of the day go up into the Montagnes Noire or the Pyrenees. The principality and tax haven of Andorra is a suitable destination for a day trip and the Spanish border is less than 2 hours away.
